29 North Western Wainwrights

1 Grasmoor                852m

Grasmoor is the highest peak of the north western fells and the 20th highest peak in all the wainwrights. Grasmoor is located right above Crummock water to the north. Grasmoor is connected to the second highest fell Eel Crag and Wandope.  

2 Eel Crag                     839m

Eel Crag or Crag Hill is the second highest of the north western fells and the 24th highest of all the wainwrights. Crag Hill is located just east of the highest north western fell Grasmoor inbetween the Rannerdale and Coldale valleys.

3 Grisedale Pike        791m

Grisedale Pike is the 3rd highest of the north western fells and the 40th highest of all the wainwrights. Grisdale Pike is located to the south west of Braithwaite, and connects onto 3 other high fells within the north western wainwrights, consisting of Eel Crag. Grasmoor and Hopegill Head. Grisdale Pike is part of the Coledale horseshoe.

4 Sail                               773m

Sail is  the 4th highest wainwright of the north western fells and the 51st highest of all the wainwrights.  Sail is located inbetween Derwent water and Crummock water. Sail is directly connected to the fells Crag Hill and Scar Crags. Sail has an iconic windy path leading east to Scar Crags.

5 Wandope                  772m

Wandope is the 5th highest of the north western fells and the 52nd highest of all the 214 wainwrights.  Wandope is located just north of Crummock water to its eastern side.  Wandope is a fell that connects onto its parent peak Grasmoor.

6 Hopegill Head     770m

Hopegill Head is the 6th highest of the north western fells and the 53rd highest of all the wainwrights.  Hopegill Head is located just south west of Grisdale Pike, Hopegill head connects onto the wainwright Whiteside via a rocky ridge filled with heather.

7 Dale Head               753m

Dale Head is the 7th highest wainwright of the north western fells and the 63rd highest of the wainwrights. Dale Head is located just north of the honister pass, inbetween Buttermere and Borrowdale to the south. Dale Head is part of the Newlands watershed horseshoe and the highest peak of this route.

   8 Robinson                 737m

Robinson is the 8th highest of the north western wainwrights and the 67th highest of all 214 wainwrights. Robinson is located just north of Buttermere and adjacent to Dale Head which is east of Robinson.  Robinson is situated in the Newlands watershed horseshoe and is the second highest peak on this route.

9 Hindscarth             727m

Hindscarth is the 9th highest of the north western fells and the 73rd highest of all the wainwrights. Hindsacrth is located inbetween the honister path to the south and Newlands to the north. It is part of the Newlands watershed horseshoe and is nestled between Robinson and Dale Head. 

10 Whiteside              707m

Whiteside is 10th highest of the north western wainwrights and the 84th highest of all the wainwrights. Whiteside is located towards the western end of Crummock water towering over from the north. Whiteside is connected to one of wainwright Hopegill head via an exposed ridge.

11 Scar Crags            672m

Scar Crags is the 11th highest of north western fells and the 102nd highest of the 214 wainwrights. Scar crags is located to the west of Derwent water within the Coledale fells. Scar Crags is part of the Coledale horseshoe and is connected directly behind Causey Pike.

12 Whiteless Pike   660m

Whiteless Pike is the 12th highest of the north western fells and the 106th highest wainwright. Whiteless Pike is located above the eastern side of Crummock Water. Whiteless Pike is situated just underneath Grasmoor and is connect to Wandope.

13 High Spy               653m

High Spy is the 13th highest of the north western fells and is the 113th highest of all the lakeland wainwrights. High Spy is situated in between the Newlands and Borrowdale Valley. High Spy is part of the newlands watershed horseshoe.

14 Causey Pike      637m

Causey Pike is the 14th highest of the north western fells and the 120th highest of all the wainwrights. Causey Pike is located right above Derwent water to the west. Causey Pike has an iconic peak seen from Derwent Water, Three small knobs and a slightly higher pointed summit.

15 Ard Crags             581m

Ard Crags is the 15th highest of the north western fells and the 137th highest of all the wainwrights. Ard Crags is located within the newlands valley underneath scar crags to the south, Ard Crags is connected directly to Knott Rigg, both of these wainwrights are isolated from any others.

16 Maiden Moor     575m

Maiden Moor is the 16th highest of the north western fells and the 139th highest of all the wainwrights. Maiden Moor is situated above the western shores of Derwent water, Maiden Moor is part of the Newlands watershed Horseshoe and is connected to Cat Bells to the north and High Spy to the south.

17 Outerside             568m

Outerside is the 17th highest peak of the north western wainwrights and the 142nd highest of the 214 wainwrights. Outerside is located just south of Braithwaite village, it is part of the Coldeale horseshoe Outerside connects onto Scar Crags, Causey Pike and Barrow. 

18 Knott Rigg         556m

Knott Rigg is the 18th highest fell of the north western wainwrights and the 145th highest of all the wainwrights. Knott Rigg is located within the newlands valley just underneath Sail. Knott Rigg is connected to Ard Crags both of these fells and isolated and not directly connected to any other wainwrights.

19 Lords Seat             552m

Lord's Seat is the 19th highest wainwright in the north western fells and the 147th highest of the 214 wainwrights. Lords Seat is located just north of Whinlatters pass, Lords Seat is the highest of all the fells north of Whinlatters pass. 

20 Whinlatter         517m

Whinlatter is the 20th highest of the north western fells and the 165th highest of all the wainwrights.  Whinlatter is loacted within Whinlatter forest just above Whinlatter Pass. This fell is the second highest in the immediate area and the surrounding area is covered in forests.

21 Broom Fell              511m

Broom Fell is the 21st highest of the north western fells and the 169th highest of all the wainwrights.  Broom Fell is a wainwright located north of Whilatter pass it lies inbetween Lords Seat and Greystones connecting all three of them together. 

22 Barf                      468m

Barf is the 22nd highest of the north western fells and the 185th highest of all 214 wainwrights. Barf is located above the southern shore of Bassenthwaite lake to the east. Barf is surronded onto other small wainwrights connecting directly to Lords Seat.

23 Greystones         456m

Graystones is the 23rd highest peak of the north western fells and the 187th highest of all the wainwrights. Graystones is located above High Lorton to the north of the village. Greystones connects onto Broom fell.

24 Barrow                  455m

Barrow is the 24th highest wainwright of the north western fells and the 188th highest of all the 214 wainwrights. Barrow is located north west of the newlands valley and just south of Braithwaite. Barrow is the smallest fell of the Coledale horseshoe and connects onto Outerside.

25 Cat Bells               451m

Cat Bells is the 25th highest wainwright of he north western fells and the 189th highest of all the wainwrights. Cat Bells is a popular wainwright located just south of Keswick and west of Derwentwater, It is the smallest wainwright located within the Newlands watershed horseshoe.

26 Ling Fell                373m

Ling Fell is the 26th highest of the north western fells and the 205th highest of the 214 wainwrights.  Ling Fell is located above the villlage of Wythop Mill. Ling Fell is a secluded fell along with its nearby partner Sale Fell just to the north.

27   Sale Fell               359m

Sale Fell is the 27th highest of the 29 north western fells and the 208th highest of all the wainwrights. Sale Fell is located above Bassenthwaite to the south west of the lake. From the top you get great views of the front of Skiddaw to the north and behind you seen the partner wainwright Ling Fell. 

28 Rannerdale Knotts 355m

Rannerdale Knotts is the second smallest of the north western fells and the 210th highest of the 214 wainwrights. Rannerdale knotts is located just north of Crummock water. Rannerdale is situated underneath Grasmoor the highest peak within the north western fells.  Rannerdale Knotts is known for the carpet of bluebells it has during the end of april.

29 Castle Crag    290m

Castle Crag is the smallest of all the north western fells and the smallest of the 214 wainwrights. Castle Crag is located directly to the south of Derwent water within the Borrowdale valley. Castle Crag is an isolated peak with amazing views of the surrounding taller peaks from its summit.
